The penalties for driving uninsured in Fayette Kentucky can be rather harsh. For a 1st offense you are cited to go to court and be imprisoned for not more than 90 days or be fined between $500 to $1000 or both.

Your Kentucky license plates and motor vehicle registration can be suspended for 1 year or until proof of auto insurance is provided. You could also lose your license for up to 1 year. The penalties increase for each subsequent offense of not having proper proof of car insurance.

If you do not yet have your full KY license, due to the graduated licensing system and being under eighteen, there may be other penalties included so check with the KY Transportation Cabinet.
