Will Car Pooling in Kentucky Lower Your Insurance Rates?
Reader’s Question:
I have been a full-time mom since I gave birth to my son. Now he is 4 and is attending pre-school. I have recently volunteered my car for carpooling and I am curious if this qualifies me for a lower motor vehicle insurance cost. I live in Kentucky.

The price of gasoline is shooting up. That’s an unfortunate fact that car owners will have to deal with everyday. One of the simple ways to save on gas is carpooling. Many have resorted to carpooling to get to work or school, and to cater to the changing times, motor vehicle insurance providers have devised discounts to reward motorists who use their cars less. Since you have agreed to start carpooling, it’s quite possible that you would be eligible for a lower motor vehicle insurance rate. If you have been carpooling for quite some time, and have not been receiving the rate adjustment, all you need to do is contact your insurance agent and ask him or her what you need to present as proof that you indeed share a ride. Once you have gathered all the necessary documents and whatever else they may require, submit it to your agent and inquire if you are entitled to a refund. If you are, they would usually apply the difference to your next policy statement. The terms and conditions on this particular issue may vary between motor vehicle insurance providers in Kentucky. Some may offer less and others may offer more. Each one may require different forms of proof. Besides inquiring from your agent, you could also seek out information on your own by visiting various websites on this topic and get up to date on the issue.
Will Out of State Speeding Ticket Affect Car Insurance in Kentucky?
Reader’s Question:
My daughter received a speeding ticket in Indiana and I am licensed in the Owensboro Kentucky. I would like to know if the state of Kentucky will be able to know about this? Will this affect her car insurance rate?
Jenny
Owensboro, KY
Kentucky and Indiana are both part of the Drivers License Compact which requires member states to report any offenses for other traffic violations back to the home state in which the individual was issued their license. Therefore the IN Bureau of Motor Vehicles or the court should notify the Transportation Cabinet of the speeding violation you received from a different state.
According to the Kentucky driver’s manual the Division of Driver Licensing keeps a record of all traffic violations on each driver licensed in KY. These driving records are based on traffic convictions reports, payment of fine, forfeiture of bail, with or without court appearances, which are forwarded to the Division of Driver Licensing by the courts throughout the US.
Your daughter may contact her auto insurance company to find out if this speeding ticket will increase her auto insurance rate.
Non Owner SR22 Auto Insurance Discounts in Kentucky?
Q: Can I get discounts on non owner Kentucky SR22 insurance or are they all for people with cars? Because it looks like to me everything is for people who have cars.
A: You may just be with a car insurance company which doesn’t have a lot of discounts. I would say that is the first sign that you need to get out. Start looking up quotes online and think about changing to a company with a lower car insurance quote and a better range of discounts. Depending on the size and number of discounts you’d qualify for, sometimes it’s better to trade a lower initial quote for a lot of discounts.
Many of the discounts aren’t applicable to a non owner SR22 insurance policies because they involve aspects of he car, such as anti theft device discount, low mileage discounts, safety feature discounts, and the like. But many are careless discounts.
For example, you can get a discount for combining your insurance policies, by getting your life, health, home owners/renters, and car insurance all from the same company. You can choose from a variety of student and senior discounts, or take classes to watch your non owner SR22 car insurance rate plummet.
