Q: How is an SR22 insurance form filed?
A: How an SR22 insurance form is filed will always depend on the car insurance company, of course, so you will have to ask your company if you are trying to get it filed a certain way. Normally, though, there are two ways and three different forms.
The three types of SR22 insurance form are as follows
- Owner SR22 insurance form, which is for someone who owns a car but does not drive it.
- Operator SR22 insurance form, which is for someone who drives but does not own a car.
- Owner-operator SR22 insurance form, which is for someone who owns a car and drives it as well.
If you choose a company to file your SR22 insurance form, one of the above will be filed. In some cases this is done via mail and sent to the Department of motor vehicles, and this can take as much as a month to process. In other cases, your SR22 insurance form can be filed electronically, which usually takes between 24 and 48 hours.
