Reader’s Question:

Can you give me tips on how I can have a cheap Kentucky auto insurance for students?

Abigail

Louisville, Kentucky

In the course of their studies, students may have to face various necessary expenses and among the highest of these are books and tuition. Car insurance costs should not be another burden for them. Getting a car insurance for students, especially young people, may be difficult to get at a lower price. However, there are many ways to acquire a cheap student car insurance as long as you know what factors will determine the amount of your car insurance premium. Among these factors are your gender, age, driving history and garage location.

You must be able to demonstrate that you can drive safely on the road. You can attend courses on safe and defensive driving from schools that are recognized by car insurance companies.

You must avoid substances abuse as much as possible. It is easier to keep a clean driving history if you can pay attention to car speed limits and other driving laws and regulations. Avoiding substance abuse will also keep you away from Driving Under Influence (DUI) and Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) cases. Having these cases will surely give you a headache as these will soar your car insurance premium higher.

If you have had a car insurance before and you have not been into road accidents or have not filed a claim against your car insurance policy, you may be able to have a cheap student car insurance because car insurance companies can offer you no-claims bonuses that can further lower your car insurance costs.

Keep excellent grades in your class. Some car insurance companies take into consideration the students’ scholastic records and offer cheap student car insurance to those with excellent school performance. For this matter, the average grade a student can have is B or higher to have a chance on discounted car insurance premium rates.

For students, getting a cheap car insurance may be hard in Kentucky. But as long as you can demonstrate that you are a responsible driver with discipline as shown on your scholastic records, you may be able to negotiate for a cheap car insurance.

Can I purchase Kentucky SR22 car insurance online?

Ben

Fayette, KY

Yes you can buy your SR22 auto insurance online but this will depend on the insurance company that you choose if this option is available from them. Most of the bigger insurance providers, and even some smaller local companies, have started providing SR22 insurance online. You can search in this manner easily, by using comparison quote sites and other online information to be able to get the best insurer for you.

Several SR22 car insurance companies in Kentucky are seeing the profit involved in offering coverage for this risky driver policy, and have started to provide incentives to clients who select to do so. Normally this is done in the form of a discount online, where you can obtain 5-20% off of your SR22 insurance policy if you opt to buy your policy online.

Reader’s Question:

My son just got charged with DUI. Now he’s shopping for SR22 insurance that he can use here in Kentucky so he can continue driving his car. How can he get an affordable SR22 insurance?

John

Louisville, KY

Cheap high risk car insurance Kentucky, or SR22 insurance, is quite difficult to attain because car insurance companies charge relatively high rates for the insurance of high risk drivers. In fact, not all car insurance companies provide SR22 insurance. If they do, they charge high rates while being too strict when it comes to payment of insurance premiums.

Your son may do several things to enhance his chances of getting cheap high risk car insurance Kentucky. First, shopping extensively is important in looking for a good provider of cheap SR22 insurance. He should put more time and effort in shopping for SR22 insurance, because chances are, he will receive pretty SR22 insurance quotes. So he must be patient enough in shopping for the company that gives the lowest SR22 insurance quotes.

Your son can get a better chance of gaining cheap high risk car insurance Kentucky if he proves he is a good payer. He should present a good credit rating to his insurer so that he can convince the company that he can pay his SR22 insurance premiums on time. Remember that SR22 insurance firms are strict when it comes to monthly payments. So if he can convince the insurer that he knows how to pay his bills on time, then he can get a cheaper SR22 insurance.

Reader’s Question:

I am a 25 year old working female who has been charged with DUI. My question is: Why do I need to get an SR-22 insurance policy when I don’t even own a car? I need to save money during these tough times.

Cassy

Louisville, KY

Cassy, an SR-22 insurance policy is needed in Kentucky if you have been convicted with DWI (driving while intoxicated or DUI which stands for driving under the influence), and you want to get your license reinstated. An SR-22 is needed for five years after the earliest offense, and then ten years after a subsequent offense, and then if you obtain a third offense, a full 20 years. I mean seriously, that maybe heaven’s way of telling you that you are not meant to drive. Ever.

But if you still ignore the voices of reason, common sense and logic even if they scream directly at your ear, and you still get a fourth offense, then you have to carry an SR-22 insurance for life. However, statistics show that most DWI violators do not reach the fourth offense. The afterlife is what they reach. But anyway…

If you do not possess your own vehicle, that will not stand in the way of you trashing others’ cars. Ask a car insurance company in your vicinity about a non-owner SR-22 policy, or you can check online for cheap rates. An SR-22 policy will insure that the driver is financially responsible for any accident that will arise even if he or she has shown ruthless behavior on the road. And for the record, bad drivers and cheap insurance policy do not belong in the same sentence. Oops. Well, you get the picture.

What is it they say about drinking and driving? Alcohol and gasoline do not mix. If you’re out to prove otherwise, well, they do mix, but it has a dreadful aftertaste.

Reader’s Question:

I have been a full-time mom since I gave birth to my son. Now he is 4 and is attending pre-school. I have recently volunteered my car for carpooling and I am curious if this qualifies me for a lower motor vehicle insurance cost. I live in Kentucky.

Moira

Louisville, KY

The price of gasoline is shooting up. That’s an unfortunate fact that car owners will have to deal with everyday. One of the simple ways to save on gas is carpooling. Many have resorted to carpooling to get to work or school, and to cater to the changing times, motor vehicle insurance providers have devised discounts to reward motorists who use their cars less. Since you have agreed to start carpooling, it’s quite possible that you would be eligible for a lower motor vehicle insurance rate. If you have been carpooling for quite some time, and have not been receiving the rate adjustment, all you need to do is contact your insurance agent and ask him or her what you need to present as proof that you indeed share a ride. Once you have gathered all the necessary documents and whatever else they may require, submit it to your agent and inquire if you are entitled to a refund. If you are, they would usually apply the difference to your next policy statement. The terms and conditions on this particular issue may vary between motor vehicle insurance providers in Kentucky. Some may offer less and others may offer more. Each one may require different forms of proof. Besides inquiring from your agent, you could also seek out information on your own by visiting various websites on this topic and get up to date on the issue.

Reader’s Question:

What grade point average does a teen have to maintain here in Kentucky in order to be eligible for auto insurance discounts?

Melissa

Louisville, KY

There is no law in Kentucky that says one must pass a certain grade point average in order to be eligible for driving. However, there is what they call No Pass, No Drive law that is stated under the KRS 186.400 administration law. This law states that participating schools must notify Kentucky’s Transportation Cabinet about minors who abandon school or are academically unsatisfactory. These students may be evaluated and may have their driver’s licenses dismissed if found to be school dropouts.

However, a driver who was given a driver’s permit while still under the age of 18 should take a driver education program. The driver must pass a written test before being subject to further evaluation for unrestricted license eligibility.

If the teen already has a learner’s permit, he must be able to get auto insurance. However, if he gets into trouble before getting his auto insurance and gets his license dismissed, he may have a hard time getting insurance. This is because auto insurance companies need to make sure that the person they are insuring is eligible to drive (with a driver’s license). If he has a dismissed license or drives without any license, chances are the auto insurance company would be paying for a bigger amount and would make them consider the driver as a high-risk.

Reader’s Question:

I am from Lexington-Fayette, Kentucky, and I heard that Kentucky is a no fault state. But what exactly is a no fault insurance?

Max

Lexington-Fayette, KY

Max, you are right. Kentucky is indeed a no fault state. So, this means that auto insurance policies there are a bit different than the standard ones that work in other states. Presently, there are 12 states that are no fault. These states are New Jersey, Hawaii, Kansas, Florida, Minnesota, North Dakota, New York, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Kentucky, Massachusetts and Utah. But there are three states that are under a choice no fault law and where you are right now, Lexington-Fayette, Kentucky, is among them along with New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

What this means is that the motorists have a choice to reject the lawsuit threshold and just retain the right to sue in court for any injuries that are involved in any vehicular accident. What you have to take note of is the nature of the no fault insurance system because no fault auto insurance is in fact misunderstood widely. No fault auto insurance is just a system that makes it compulsory for the drivers to carry insurance for their own protection, but at the same time it limits the capability of the drivers to sue the other parties or drivers for damages. By law, the no fault system makes your auto insurance companies pay for your damages, which have to be within your policy. The company would cover the payments regardless of who was at fault in the accident that the driver has involved himself in. The other drivers who are involved are going to be covered by their own insurance companies.

The good thing about this is that you are guaranteed immediate medical attention, and it also lowers the legal fees. Actually, there is still a lot more to know about this. Just ask around.

A friend told me once that Kentucky is a no fault auto insurance state Can you please tell me what that’s all about? Is that beneficial?

Carrie

Bowling Green, KY

First things first. You know how, generally, insurance companies or you yourself can go after the driver at fault to try to recuperate financial damages? Well, with no-fault car insurance, your insurance company will protect you regardless of whose fault the accident was. Yes, even if it was YOUR fault. Hence the phrase “no fault.” So, why doesn’t everyone take out no fault insurance, you may ask. First, it’s because not all states offer this kind of insurance. Your friend is right. Bowling Green, Kentucky is a no fault area because the state of Kentucky is a no fault state. There are only twelve states that have no fault systems, I think. What’s more, in Kentucky, you can actually choose between the traditional type and the no fault type.

Another reason why some people choose tort insurance (traditional) over no fault is because, as with everything, there are two sides to this kind of insurance. Your insurance company will already indemnify you, so your capacity to sue the other driver for damages is therefore limited. One advantage that I can see about no fault is that of faster payments for injuries and the possibility of getting cheaper premiums because the costs of determining who is at fault is done away with. However, others argue that it promotes reckless driving since people are indemnified even if it was they who caused the accident

Reader’s Question:

I have full coverage on my car in Kentucky and a few weeks ago my car was caught on fire however when the claims adjuster checked my vehicle in a few days he said that all of my aftermarket parts such as amplifier, CD, etc. made hot leads to the battery and that is where the fire originated which was according to the fire department so the claim will be denied?

James

Louisville, KY

Insurance carriers in Louisville, Kentucky vary on their guidelines with regards to aftermarket parts or the customizing of automobiles. Usually your auto insurance carrier would need to be informed about the performance parts beforehand for these to be covered under your car insurance policy. Most insurance providers want to do an endorsement for these non-factory parts to be covered under your car insurance policy.

You will have to speak to your car claims adjuster regarding the custom parts to check if those will be covered. If you have the receipts, it will be useful if your car insurance carrier will permit your car insurance claim. Keep in mind to always let your insurance carrier be informed about any addition to your car so you will be sure your car insurance policy will cover these parts.

You can always shop around for auto insurance company in Kentucky that will permit customized parts and get auto insurance quote for your vehicle.
