What grade point average does a teen have to maintain here in Kentucky in order to be eligible for auto insurance discounts?

There is no law in Kentucky that says one must pass a certain grade point average in order to be eligible for driving. However, there is what they call No Pass, No Drive law that is stated under the KRS 186.400 administration law. This law states that participating schools must notify Kentucky’s Transportation Cabinet about minors who abandon school or are academically unsatisfactory. These students may be evaluated and may have their driver’s licenses dismissed if found to be school dropouts.

However, a driver who was given a driver’s permit while still under the age of 18 should take a driver education program. The driver must pass a written test before being subject to further evaluation for unrestricted license eligibility.

If the teen already has a learner’s permit, he must be able to get auto insurance. However, if he gets into trouble before getting his auto insurance and gets his license dismissed, he may have a hard time getting insurance. This is because auto insurance companies need to make sure that the person they are insuring is eligible to drive (with a driver’s license). If he has a dismissed license or drives without any license, chances are the auto insurance company would be paying for a bigger amount and would make them consider the driver as a high-risk.

I have a 16 year old teenage son and I was wondering what grade point average he needs in the state of Kentucky to qualify for a car insurance discount?

I am not aware of that grade point average that someone has to carry in order to be able to have car insurance in KY. What I do know is that KY does have a form of the No Pass, No Drive law in Kentucky though that authorizes the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet to have administration regulations regarding a young or minor driver licensing applicant.

This administration regulation, requires participating schools to inform the Transportation Cabinet if a minor is academically deficient or withdraws from school. Therefore as a 16 or 17 year old and you drop out of a participating school or deemed to be deficient academically, you will lose your driver’s license.

A: Since you have  car insurance, you have to pay more than the rest of us, but this also means you have a greater impetus to search out the best car insurance discounts. Never settle with a company that doesn’t have any good discounts available for you.

One discount for your which you should encounter universally is a good student discount, which is or those college and high school students who manage to achieve grades of either a B average or a 3.5 GPA or above, depending on the standards of your car insurance company.

Another thing student related which may apply to you is a discount for people whose home owns are far away from the college–usually 100+ miles. If this is how it is with you and your home own, you can leave your car there and say on your parents’ insurance policy instead of paying so much for your policy.

A: Maybe there is, but it depends on what you were studying so hard on to get that good student discount for your car insurance policy. If you were working on a degree in the field of science or mathematics, particularly in engineering, then your looking at a savings from some companies simply for that. Although this discount is still not widespread, it is taking hold in the car insurance industry, as many studies have found that people in the above fields are more meticulous and pay attention o detail, and, the kicker, file fewer car insurance claims.

If you don’t have one of these degrees, or even if you do and decided to go into the field of teaching, you can get another discount by joining a teacher’s union. Of course, unions do have membership fees, but it will be like getting free union membership because your discount will be around the amount of the fees, and you probably would have joined the union anyway.
