Auto Insurance Company Louisville, Kentucky KY

Filed under: SR22 Kentucky, SR22 Non Owner Kentucy — author @ 11:20 pm

Reader’s Question:

I have full coverage on my car in Louisville, Kentucky and a few weeks ago my automobile was caught on fire however when the claims adjuster checked my vehicle in a few days he said that all of my aftermarket parts such as amplifier, CD, etc. made hot leads to the battery and that is where the fire originated which was according to the fire department so the claim will be denied?

James

Louisville, KY

Insurance carriers in Louisville, Kentucky vary on their guidelines with regards to aftermarket parts or the customizing of automobiles. Usually your auto insurance carrier would need to be informed about the performance parts beforehand for these to be covered under your car insurance policy. Most insurance providers want to do an endorsement for these non-factory parts to be covered under your car insurance policy.

You will have to speak to your car claims adjuster regarding the custom parts to check if those will be covered. If you have the receipts, it will be useful if your car insurance carrier will permit your car insurance claim. Keep in mind to always let your insurance carrier be informed about any addition to your car so you will be sure your car insurance policy will cover these parts.

You can always shop around for auto insurance company in Louisville, Kentucky that will permit customized parts and get auto insurance quote for your vehicle.

Automobile Insurance Company Owensboro Kentucky KY

Filed under: SR22 Kentucky, SR22 Non Owner Kentucy — author @ 11:00 am

Reader’s Question:

I was contacted by an insurance carrier in Owensboro and they told me that they compared their car insurance rates to our insurance carrier and they said they offer better car insurance rates. They said they were looking at our insurance policy and said we could get a better deal with them. How is it possible that they have access to our auto insurance information?

Desiree

Owensboro, KY

Normally a competing insurance company is not permitted to have access to your current insurance policy. For marketing, typically an insurer will look at your current registered cars and try to rate it with that. Competing insurance carriers/agents can access general information about you like your age, where you live, tax status, etc., however they should not have access to your actual car insurance policy without your permission. They are in violation of insurance privacy regulations if they do.

Most likely the insurance carrier that called you was using a marketing strategy to get your business. As for comparing their car insurance rates with your insurance carriers rates overall, that is possible since some insurers do publish sample insurance rate quotes. For instance, you live in Owensboro Kentucky, here the Kentucky Department of Insurance (DOI) provides a consumer guide that lists insurance carriers authorized to sell auto/homeowners/renters insurance in KY and those insurers have provided rate comparisons for certain situations.

If you believe that the insurance company that contacted you truly did have a copy of your car insurance policy then you can have the KY DOI, the insurance regulator for the state, investigate the issue and you can file a formal complaint with this state agency.

Driving Without Car Insurance Louisville, Kentucky KY

Filed under: SR22 Kentucky, SR22 Non Owner Kentucy — author @ 10:02 pm

Reader’s Question:

I would like to know what the penalties would be for driving a car that is not registered to me, or charge me with driving without car insurance in Louisville, Kentucky and failure to show proof of insurance? The vehicle was not mine.

Paul

Louisville, Kentucky

The penalties for driving a car without auto insurance in Louisville, Kentucky can be rather harsh. For the first violation you are cited to go to court and can be fined between $500 up to $1000 or a jail time for not more than ninety days or both.

Your Kentucky motor vehicle registration and license plates can be suspended for a year or until proof of automobile insurance is provided as well for the registered car owner of an uninsured car. License suspension for up to one year is also a possible penalty. The penalties for each subsequent offense of not having proper proof of car insurance, increase.

While you are not the owner of the vehicle in which you were operating, The Kentucky laws still hold you liable as a driver to make sure the vehicle you are driving is insured and be sure that there is proof of that insurance to show to police officer upon request.

If you want to know more about the specifics on the laws of Kentucky then you can contact legal attorney. An attorney may be able to advise you if there is any way to have your tickets transferred to the vehicle owner if you had asked about car insurance and were assured the automobile was insured and therefore were unaware that you were driving without auto insurance.

Auto Insurance Policy Covington, Kentucky KY

Filed under: SR22 Kentucky, SR22 Non Owner Kentucy — author @ 8:28 am

Reader’s Question:

Can I have the title of the vehicle under my name and have the car insurance under my mother’s insurance policy in Covington, KY?

Thomas

Covington, KY

Insurance carriers in Covington, KY have different guidelines so you will have to know for sure if your father’s insurance would permit this type of set up for car insurance. One must have insurable interest in order to insure a car. If you want your mother to insure your vehicle, instead of yourself, then many insurance providers would not permit this since she does not have insurable interest in the car.

If you live in the same household as your mother and want to add the vehicle to her current insurance policy this may be permitted, again it will depend upon what her insurance carrier’s underwriting guidelines are. If instead you live outside of her household and thus the vehicle is garaged at a different address then it is unlikely that an insurance carrier would allow her to insure the vehicle under her insurance policy.

Auto Insurance Company Kentucky KY

Reader’s Question:

I’m Gayle from Fayette, KY and had a recent car accident. I want to know what actions must I take after a car accident? Do I need to accept a settlement offer from the insurance company?

Gayle

Fayette, KY

Hi Gayle. Under the Kentucky law (KRS 189.635) you are required to call the police to report the accident if someone is harmed or injured; or one of the cars is rendered inoperable. If no police investigation is made and either the car suffers $500 or more in damage expense you must report the incident to the State Police within 10 days. Next, your car insurance company requires you to report the accident to your insurance company and fill out the appropriate forms.

As for your second question, the answer can be a Yes or a No. Car insurance companies in Fayette, KY are notorious for offering settlements that are far less than the injured party deserves. However, if the car insurance company is offering what you feel the car is worth, then you can accept it. It will also be advantageous if you consult an experienced lawyer that is knowledgeable on car accident laws. By contacting an auto accident injury lawyer you may be able to receive a much larger settlement than the car insurance company has offered.

Filed under: SR22 Kentucky, SR22 Non Owner Kentucy — author @ 10:05 pm

Reader’s Question:

How long does an inexperienced motorists rate apply to insurance companies in Kentucky?

Jeff

Louisville, KY

Each insurance companies in Kentucky is different in their rating factors; this includes their insurance rates for inexperienced and young drivers. For some auto insurance companies it is three years for others it can be 5 to 9 years that an insurance company will term and rate someone as inexperienced.

Some companies do not look at the date that the driver was first licensed at all, but use their age as the only rating factor. When the age of the driver is the thing being looked at, typically a motorist under the age of 25 is considered inexperienced.

If you have just recently received your driver’s license you should shop around for car insurance to find the best insurance rates for your car and level of experience behind the wheel of it.

Non Owners Auto Insurance Kentucky

Reader’s Question:

I have a driver’s license in Kentucky, but I do not have a vehicle. I have been driving my brother’s car. He has car insurance, but I am not listed on the insurance policy as a driver. Can I still drive his car? What’s going to happen if I get involved in an accident?

Jean

Louisville, KY

If you are operating your brother’s vehicle with any kind of regularity, you should be listed on your brother’s policy as a driver. Otherwise, your brother runs the risk of having the insurance provider deny coverage for a claim if you get involved in an accident while using that vehicle. As a result you and your brother can be held accountable for that accident. If your brother does not add you to that policy as a driver, to protect your interests, you may consider buying a ‘named non owner’ insurance policy. This policy will provide coverage for liability, uninsured motorist, medical payments and coverages for someone who does not own a vehicle and will be operating a vehicle owned by someone else.
